Why do Contacts Give Headache?

There are many reasons why your contact lens is giving you headaches frequently. Only your doctor will be able to break down the reason in a proper way. So make sure you book your appointment with your eye specialist as soon as you get a headache wearing contact lenses.

Some of these reasons are:

  • Wearing the wrong contact lens– In case there is an error in your prescription, then you would probably end up getting a wrong pair of contacts. So make sure to double-check with your doctor about your prescription. Also, when you get your contacts, you should check if the lens is the same as mentioned in the prescription. Incorrect lenses will not just give you a headache, but will also degrade your vision. If this is the case with you, you should replace your lens immediately with the correct one.
  • Inaccurate lens fitting– Always wear a lens in the proper way. The fitting should be precise so that you do not experience any discomfort. Also, wearing lenses for several hours may dry up the lens that can lead to headaches. One must not delay in discussing with an eye doctor regarding this issue.
  • Headaches from dry eyes– People who suffer from dry eyes are more prone to headaches. It can cause you to become light-sensitive and lead to frequent squinting. Headaches that occur from dry eyes can be easily treated by home remedies or certain medications.
  • Eye strain from the computer– If you have to work for long hours before the computer screen wearing contacts, then you would experience headaches quite often. This is called computer vision syndrome. Your contacts may also become dry due to computer work. So when you see your eye specialist, make sure you mention your routine and work pattern.
  • Sinus pain– You may experience headaches due to sinus congestion. Since this pain originates behind the eye region, it is generally mistaken as eye pain. So before you feel that your contacts are causing pain, be sure that you don’t have sinus issues. Sometimes sinus headaches are mistaken as eye pain. To understand this correctly, you need to talk to your eye specialist.

No matter whatever cause may be for eye pain, it must not be delayed. You should seek a doctor’s advice if you have headaches causing trouble, especially when you have a contact lens.
